Who is responsible for repairing my approach (driveway), the portion that is on City property?
An approach is the responsibility of the homeowner unless damage has occurred due to an excavation or snow removal as a result of City's negligence.
Private Access By-law No. 49/2008; The cost of installation, construction, reinstallation, reconstruction, repair, alteration or maintenaince of a private walk or approach shall be paid by the owner; and the cost of reconstruction, repair or alteration shall include the cost of removal of an existing approach or part thereof.
When a lane plow is done who is responsible for removing the ridge of snow that the plow leaves behind?
Such ridges or piles of snow are the responsibility of the homeowner.
When will the excavation in front of my house be fixed?
Restoration will take place after the area has been tamped, refilled & settled.
Is the City responsible for pruning my neighbor's tree that is encroaching on my property?
Trees growing on private property that are encroaching on other private property are a civil matter. The City only gets involved if trees are encroaching on a City right of way.

Can I drain my sump pump onto the street?
Sump pumps are not to drain directly onto a city right of way. These calls are directed to the Water & Waste Department at 311.
When does the overnight parking ban take effect?
For streets with snow route signs parking is prohibited from December 1st to March 1st between the hours of 2 a.m. & 7 a.m. Parking may be prohibited on all other streets following a major snowstorm. Listen to the media for announcements. For more information, see Parking Bans
When will my street/sidewalk be plowed?
Streets and sidewalks are plowed in the following order;
- Priority I (Major routes)
- Priority II (These include non-regional bus routes and collector streets based on traffic counts.)
- Priority III (These include residential streets and /or little used industrial streets) are plowed following inspection (usually after 10 c.m. of snowfall or equivalent local drifting).
When will my street be sanded?
Streets will be sanded in the following order;
- Priority I (Major routes)
- Priority II (These include non-regional bus routes and collector streets based on traffic counts.)
- Priority III (Residential streets are only sanded at intersections & on rare occasions bends & curves are done.Icy conditions around water main breaks will be sanded as required)
- Sanding will not be undertaken in backlanes.
Why does the City Concrete Saw in the evening?
After concrete is poured the roadway contractor has to saw cut the joints to control where cracking occurs. Depending upon the time of day the concrete was poured and the temperature, sometimes this saw cutting must occur at night. The conctractor gets a permit from the police department to undertake the saw cutting as an exemption from the noise bylaw.
