What's New - In the Planning, Property and Development Department

	Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) A strategy available to help Winnipeg manage growth and improve the quality of life by aligning transit investments with the community’s vision for how it wants to grow, creating “livable” mixed-use, denser, walkable places, and providing an alternative to low-density suburban development and automobile-dependent land use patterns..

	2010 Home Renovation Tax Credit On March 24, 2010, City Council has approved By-Law 36/2010 to “… establish a program of real property tax credits in the year 2010 to encourage and assist in the renovation of residential premises …”.

	Certified Permit Coordinator Program Launching on April 6, 2010, as part of the City’s building permit services, the program is intended to fast track foundation permits for qualifying new commercial construction projects for certified professionals.

	Updates to the Building and Site Design Summary Submission Form, 2010 Updates to the BSDS and Simplified BSDS have been incorporated for submission with building permit applications effective March 3, 2010. On-line access to documents has also been improved offering Word and PDF versions as well as offering access to each section of the BSDS for use by multiple industry professionals.

	Neighbourhood Main Streets Zoning Review The intent of this project is to create a zoning framework to implement the community’s vision in three neighbourhood main street areas – Academy Road, St. Norbert and Transcona.

	Communication Facilities Protocol Project The City of Winnipeg is undertaking the preparation of a Communication Facilities Protocol to guide the development and installation of communication facilities and establish a community consultation process in Winnipeg.

	Redevelopment at Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Blvd. This super-regional commercial destination centre will be unique in Winnipeg, and is one of the largest commercial projects for Winnipeg in the last 25 years.

	By-law Changes Effective January 1, 2009 On July 16 2008 Council passed By-law 126/2008 amending the Development Procedures and Board of Adjustment By-laws. These amendments deal with the routing of variance and conditional use applications to the Community Committee rather than the Board of Adjustment if the application is associated with subdivisions and/or rezonings processed within the past 2 years. Copies of these By-laws are available on the City Clerk Department's By-laws website

	Introducing the Simplified Version of the Building Design Summary. This version has been streamlined to include only those submission requirements specific to commercial building permit applications for one storey Group D, E or F buildings. For all other new commercial, new construction or major addition projects, please use the original, full-length version of the Building Design Summary.

	PERMITS ONLINE Permits Online is a new e-service that enables the trades and building industry to apply for plumbing, electrical and new home construction permits over the Internet. The new Permits Online system provides flexibility in how, where and when permit applications are filed. Once a permit application has been submitted, this secure system enables registered users to check on the status of their permit application(s) seven days a week, day or night. As the Permits Online system continues to develop, more features and additional types of permit applications will be added. Users will see the site expand to offer a number of functions related to the permit application process, including the electronic submission of documents related to a permit application, online payment options, and the ability to receive and print completed permits using the Permits Online system.
