Proposed Redevelopment Area

Pedestrian and Bicycle Access

Can I bike or walk to these stores?

The Developer will be required to construct a 3.5 metre-wide asphalt pathway along the entire length of the new development, west side of Kenaston Blvd from Lowson Crescent north to the rail underpass.

This pathway will eventually connect the Thundering Bison Trail, which is on the south side of Sterling Lyon Parkway, to Taylor Ave to the north.

Thundering Bison becomes the TransCanada Trail to the west as it comes out of Fort Whyte Alive, goes north into Assiniboia Forrest (Harte Trail), and connects to the east across Kenaston Blvd into Lindenwoods. Future developments along Kenaston will extend this new this trail to the McGillivary – Wildwood Greenway.

What about pedestrian crossings?

Pedestrian crossing lights will be installed at all crossings of Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway, and at the new four-legged intersection at Lowson Crescent.

How do I safely bike or walk to the store entrance across the parking lot?

A walkway is required to be constructed that must connect the building entrance to the public pathway. This walkway must be designed using colours, textures, materials or grade elevations that differ from automobile parking surfaces. The City of Winnipeg’s Universal Design Policy will be one of the tools used to guide the design of this walkway. Connections will be made to both the Thundering Bison Trail, and the new Kenaston Pathway.

Where do I park my bike?

Bicycle parking facilities will be provided at IKEA; a minimum of 50 lockable bicycle parking stalls will be provided. This will include lockable bicycle parking stalls near the store entrance for customers, and a separate bicycle lock-up facility for employees.

What about walking from the Transit stop?

A pedestrian walkway will be constructed that leads from the Transit stop to the store entrance.
