Permits X-Press Improvement Project - Report Card
In November 2003, the Planning, Property and Development
Department
launched a comprehensive review of the permit processing system. While the
long-term goal of the Permits X-Press Improvement Project was to improve the permit process by the end of
2005, it was also given the
mandate to ensure shorter-term improvements were in place by March 31, 2004
– the beginning of 2004's busy construction season.Based on initial consultations with various industry associations,
departmental staff involved in the permit process and members of the public
throughout December 2003 to February 2004, the Permits X-Press Improvement
Project itemized the project’s recommended actions, target dates and
implementation status in the form of a Permits X-Press “Report Card”. The
Report Card prioritized recommendations for action into the
following implementation periods:
- By March 31, 2004 (“Quick Wins”)April 1 to December, 2004 (“Medium-Term), and
- January 1 to December 31, 2005 (“Longer-Term”).
On April 6, 2004, the project announced the "Quick Wins" it had implemented. These Quick Wins are summarized in the "Quick Wins" section of the project's Report Card and also described in the "Customer Service Improvements Effective March 31, 2004" section of this web site.During the period of April 1 through December 31, 2004, Project staff continued to consult with representatives from industry, staff and members of the public in its comprehensive review. The results from this Medium-Term period, as shown on the project's January 25, 2005 Report Card, is that 17 of 20 Recommended Actions were implemented, 3 Recommended Actions will be delivered within the next several months, and an additional 13 "extra" items were delivered at the initiative of City staff working groups. the Report Card will continue to be updated on a regular basis to reflect the current implementation status of existing recommendations as well as any new recommendations which emerge over time.We welcome your feedback on the Report Card and your suggestions for improvement. pp&d-help.
