Mayor Presents Business Improvement Zones Awards

Mosaic Market B.I.Z.Mosaic Market BIZ Award

The Mayor’s award recipient from the Mosaic Market BIZ is the Tiginagas Family, from the Angelo’s Chip Shop.

As a young married couple, living in Greece, John and Helen Tiginagas were searching for better opportunities.  So almost 50 years ago, they decided to immigrate to Canada.   In the early 60’s, they had two children, a Son named Angelo and a Daughter named Dia (Deea).   John was working as a tailor in the North End, when in 1974 He spotted a restaurant for sale at 903 Main Street.  Deciding that Angelo’s Chip Shop sounded better than John’s Chip Shop, he named his new restaurant Angelo’s, after his Son.

Like many small businesses in the North End, their children worked before and after school, weekends, and during summer holidays in the family business.   10 years ago Angelo, came to work full time at the restaurant, last year officially taking over.  Four year ago, Angelo’s Wife Susan, also left her job at a jewellery shop, to assist her husband and family.

So just like the senior generation who founded  Angelo’s, John and Helen,  along with  Angelo and Susan work side by side, carrying on the tradition of the restaurant,  with a third generation, Angelo’s Daughter Eleni, pitching in.
This multi-generational, family owned restaurant, Angelo’s Chip Shop, is a North End institution, drawing customers from all areas of the City.   Angelo’s represents what the North End is known for in business:  tradition, multiculturalism, family values, work ethic, dedication and longevity.
The BIZ is proud to have Angelo’s Chip Shop honoured with the Mayor’s BIZ Award, for their outstanding contribution to their BIZ.

Congratulations to the Tiginagas Family!!
