Corydon Osborne neighbourhood plan

An extensive consultation program has been designed that builds on the success of Speak Up Winnipeg, which was a social media outlet for the award-winning OurWinnipeg development plan process. The program has moved beyond the traditional static open house and one way communication techniques to more interactive, design charette and workshop techniques. The project is also making best use of social media opportunities with a project website, Facebook page, QR code, e-subscribe service and e-newsletters.

The Corydon-Osborne Neighbourhood Plan was initiated in February 2011 after the completion of the background studies. Design Workshops were held in May with approximately 100 participants. A public open house session was held in June where the compiled results of the workshops were shared.

Based on the feedback from the spring design workshop and public open house, the City project team has prepared a set of urban design directions that will serve as the backbone for the Plan. Please check out the February 2012 Open House sessions for more information. Members of the public can continue to send comments by email or Facebook

The City has assembled a Community Planning Advisory Committee, consisting of a balance of local residents and members from the business community, institutions and community organizations. There are about a dozen members selected to represent a variety of backgrounds, interests and neighbourhood areas. The committee brings local knowledge to the process and helps confirm community expectations. They will function as advisors to the City by providing input on development of the Plan; it is not a decision-making body. The committee will be a liaison with community groups, business organizations and neighbourhood networks.

Further public consultation will occur before the plan is completed. The intent is to have a final plan proceed through the City Council approval process later in 2012.
