Classification and Salary Level
The following schedule will be used to determine the Classification of a Lateral entry Constable:

Providing all requirements and standards have been met, a Lateral entry Constable will advance one increment at a time on the anniversary date of their hiring until they have attained First Class Constable.
Only actual service with the Winnipeg Police Service will be considered for increments above the rank of First Class Constable.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
Lateral entry candidates will be entitled to all the benefits as per the Winnipeg Police Association Collective Agreement. All benefits and entitlements (other than salary and classification, as noted above) and seniority will be based solely on time served with the Winnipeg Police Service.
A document acknowledging benefits and entitlements will form an appendix to the formal offer of employment and must be signed by lateral entry candidates prior to appointment.
The following briefly highlights the many benefits an employee receives once they become a member of the Winnipeg Police Service:
- Uniforms, uniform equipment and dry cleaning are provided.
- A clothing allowance when working in civilian clothes.
- Shift premiums when working the evening or night shift.
- Paid overtime at the rate of time and a half for the first four hours and double time for anytime thereafter a members regular shift.
- Vacation leave: (120 hours after one year, 160 hours after five years, 200 hours after 13 years and 240 hours after 21 years) of credited service.
- A Pension after 25 years of service. This pension may be taken at the age of 55 years or after 25 years of service, whichever occurs first.
- The City of Winnipeg pays half of the monthly contributions to this pension.
- A reduced Pension is available after 20 years of service or at age 50.
- 120 hours of sick leave per year, accumulative.
- Half of an insurance premium is paid for by the City of Winnipeg.
- Dental Plan coverage.
- Vision Care
