For Immediate Release

Disturbance: C17-271303

On December 2, 2017, at approximately 11:10 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a business in the 800 block of Main Street regarding a male who was causing a disturbance and armed with a weapon. Police were told that the male had been removed from a neighbouring business a short time earlier, also for brandishing a weapon.  Bystanders were able to disarm the male and restrain him prior to police arrival.

Officers arriving at the scene took control of the male, however, the subject experienced a medical emergency. Officers administered first aid, and contacted EMS. Responding members from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service continued to administer treatment.  The subject, a male in his 30’s, was transported to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators believe this male had interactions with a number of people in the area prior to police arrival. The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting that anyone who may have come into contact with this individual, or has information that may assist investigators contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
