Sudden Death Investigation - C17-47277

On March 7, 2017 at approximately 12:10 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the rear of the 200 block of Isabel Street regarding an unresponsive male.

The male was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased.

The circumstances are unconfirmed at this time however; the investigation continues.

The deceased has been identified as 51 year old, John George SUMNER who resides in the area.

Notifications have been made and the results of an autopsy/toxicology are still pending.

Break & Enter Investigation - C17-37315

Public Assistance Requested:

On February 21, 2017 sometime between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., an unidentified male attended to the 400 block of Charles Avenue and broke into some storage lockers. 

The male suspect is described as Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 30-40 years old, heavier build, goatee facial hair and wearing a red “Crooks” hoodie and black baseball cap.

Commercial Robbery Arrest - C17-47384

On August 14th, 2016 at approximately 1:35 p.m., a male suspect attended to a grocery store in the 700 block of Maryland Street. The suspect assaulted the store owner numerous times before stealing an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and fleeing the store.

On August 27th, 2016 at approximately 6:47 p.m., a male suspect attended to a grocery store in the area of Carlton Street. and Assiniboine Avenue. The suspect assaulted the store owner before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and other merchandise.

The store owner was treated and released from hospital.

On February 10th, 2017 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. a male suspect entered a convenience store in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue. The suspect assaulted an employee and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.

On February 19th, 2017 at approximately 12:48 a.m., a male suspect entered the same business located in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue. The suspect assaulted the employee while in possession of a knife. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.

On March 7th, 2017 at approximately 6:50 a.m., a male suspect attended to a store in the 700 block of Corydon. The suspect robbed the business and threatened to harm customers and staff. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.

Members of Winnipeg Police General Patrol were quickly on scene and located the suspect in a stolen Ford F350. As members attempted to arrest the suspect he immediately became combative, which resulted in a Winnipeg Police member receiving non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit for further investigation.

Frankie Patrick LANDON, 39 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences and remanded into custody:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Utter Threats
  • Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime over $5,000
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Warrant – Robbery, Possession of a Weapon
  • Warrant – Failing to Appear in Court
  • Warrant -  Failing to Comply with Recognizance x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 2
