Child Abuse Imagery Breach Arrest

Previously released, on August 21st 2009 members of the Boynton Beach Police Department for the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office Florida became involved in an online Internet investigation for the purpose of identifying those possessing and sharing child abuse imagery using social networks.

On September 23rd, 2009 investigators became involved in an online chat and file sharing session with a suspect. It was during a session the suspect allegedly shared sexually explicit images and videos of young children.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit were notified of the incident and ongoing investigation as it was determined that the suspect resided in the Winnipeg area.

On October 27th at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit with the assistance of District 2 uniformed members executed a search warrant at a residence in the St. James area of Winnipeg.

A 59 year old male was arrested, and charged with the following offences: Access, Possess and Distribute Child Pornography. He was released on a Promise to Appear. A condition of his release was not to access the internet.

In November 2009, it is alleged that the 59 year old male breached conditions of his release by posting messages on a website.

As a result of an investigation conducted by members of the WPS ICE Unit, with the assistance of Uniform members and the Surrey, BC RCMP ICE Unit, a search warrant was obtained and subsequently executed on March 18th, 2010.

Computers and other electronic storage devices were seized.

The 59 year old male is now facing a charge of Failing to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking.

Fatal Motor Collision

On March 18th, 2010 at approximately 2:45 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to the area of the 500 block of Paul Boulevard regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.

The investigation has revealed that a 79 year old male was operating his vehicle in an east bound direction on Paul Boulevard. It was at this time the driver veered into a north side ditch causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof.

As a result of the collision, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained.

The collision is currently being investigated by members of the Central Traffic Unit.

Stabbing Arrest

As previously released, on March 13th, 2010 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Uniform members were dispatched to the area of the 500 block of Langside Street regarding a stabbing incident.

The investigation has revealed that a 20 year old female was stabbed to one of her extremities and a 21 year old male was stabbed to the upper body. The female victim has since been released from hospital. The male victim has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators have further learned that a 24 year old male suspect began causing a disturbance at a house party when he was requested to leave. The suspect became upset and began assaulting the female victim to the upper body. The male victim intervened and confronted the suspect. The suspect eventually left the premises upset with the circumstances.

Later in the night, the suspect returned and proceeded to stab both victims.

The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.

Colin MALLETT 24 years has been charged with: Aggravated Assault x 2, Assault and Break and Enter.

He has been detained in custody.

Firearm Incident Arrests

On March 16, 2010, the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding a firearm being discharged at a male by a suspect involved in a vehicle break-in in the 200 block of Oakwood Avenue.

The investigation by the Major Crimes Unit has resulted in the arrest of two 16 year old males and one 15 year old male in connection with the incident.

The trio face a variety of charges including:

  • Discharge a Firearm with Intent
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Theft Under $5,000.00
  • Mischief Under $5,000.00
  • Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition X 2
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm X 2
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

The three suspects were detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind citizens to be vigilant about their personal safety when encountering persons in the process of damaging or stealing personal property or committing other crimes. Citizens are urged to immediately contact police and avoid interaction or confrontations with suspects.

Missing Person - Taylor LAPIERRE - Located

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 14 year old missing female, Taylor LAPIERRE. LAPIERRE was last seen on March 17th, 2010 at 8:40 pm in the St. Vital area of Winnipeg. She is known to frequent Downtown, West End, North End and St. Vital.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers LAPIERRE to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

LAPIERRE is described as: Aboriginal, 5’5”, weighing approximately 134 pounds and has long brown hair, and brown eyes.

Anyone with information regarding LAPIERRE’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

Missing Person - Tatyana BRUCE

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 14 year old female, Tatyana BRUCE.

BRUCE was last seen on February 27, 2010 at 1:45pm.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers BRUCE to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

BRUCE is described as: Aboriginal, 5’5, 159lbs, straight medium length brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information regarding BRUCE’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service - Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

Missing Person - Amanda KENT - Located

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 15 year old female, Amanda KENT.

KENT was last seen on March 18, 2010 at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers KENT to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

KENT is described as Aboriginal, 5’8, 177lbs, short curly brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a grey hooded jacket and black pants.
