Criminal Record Search Update
The Winnipeg Police Service is committed to providing citizens efficient service in all areas of policing. Over the last number of years, the Police Records experienced a significant increase in request for Criminal Record Checks.
This resulted in a five week delay in processing record checks. To address this backlog and provide ongoing timely completion of record checks, the Enquiry Counter was closed to public access on Fridays during the month of October. The goal was to remove the backlog and institute measures to prevent potential future backlogs.
The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to inform the public that all outstanding criminal record checks have been completed and the backlog erased. New criminal record checks are being completed within a twenty four hour period and whenever possible, might be completed while the applicant waits.
This is among the most efficient turn around times in the entire country. The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the public for their patience and our staff for their assistance during this initiative and look forward to serving you in the future.
Photo Enforcement in Construction Zones
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind the public that several road construction projects continue to be underway and new construction projects can begin at anytime.
The safety of road construction workers as well as motorists and pedestrians is of the utmost importance to the Winnipeg Police Service therefore Photo Enforcement and Conventional Enforcement (police officers) will be used to enforce speed limits in and near construction zones in areas throughout the City.
As indicated in previous news releases, Photo Enforcement has been deployed in a number of construction zones where the speed has been permanently reduced for the duration of the construction project due to safety concerns for workers and the public.
As a result, both photo enforcement and conventional enforcement may be deployed in these zones at any time of day, 7 days per week whether workers are present or not. As of Wednesday, November 4th, 2009, photo enforcement may be deployed in the following zone:
- Dugald Road between Murdock Road and the Perimeter Highway Zone permanently reduced to 60 km/h for the duration of the construction period.
The Winnipeg Police Services is requesting the public to “Just Slow Down” and respect signed reduced speed limit zones.
For further information about the locations of photo enforcement in construction zones, please visit the “Just Slow Down” website at JustSlowDown.ca.
