Winnipeg Police Service Recruiting Website

The Winnipeg Police Recruiting/Human Resources Division is pleased to announce the release of their New Recruiting Website. The new website, located at www.winnipeg.ca/policerecruiting will allow visitors or potential applicants the opportunity to easily navigate and obtain Career information on

  • New Officers
  • Lateral Entry (experienced Officer)
  • Civilian and Volunteer opportunities within the Winnipeg Police Service.

After first being welcomed to the Recruiting website by a video message from both Mayor Sam Katz and Chief Keith McCaskill, visitors can then easily navigate themselves through the interactive site while obtaining information on:

  • The qualifications and selection process of a Policing career.
  • View demonstrative, career and training videos.
  • Access applicable downloadable forms

Designed with the potential applicant in mind, visitors will find all they need to know regarding the requirements and selection process for a career with the Winnipeg Police Service. This includes, but is not limited to, information on training, salary and benefits and living and working in the City of Winnipeg.

As of Thursday October 1st, 2009 the Winnipeg Police Service will be accepting applications for the position of Police Constable for Recruit Class #151.

Applications can be obtained by visiting our new Recruiting website at www.winnipeg.ca/policerecruiting or by attending the Winnipeg Police Service Recruiting office located at 280 William Avenue. Additional information can also be obtained by calling the Recruiting Office at 986-6204.

All qualified individuals with a desire and commitment to serve the community of Winnipeg are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until 3:30 p.m. on Friday December 4th, 2009.

Assault Arrest

On September 19th, 2009 at approximately 10:30 a.m., uniformed members were dispatched to the area of the 100 block of Smithfield Avenue regarding a domestic related matter.

The investigation has revealed that a 22 year old male and his 23 year common-law wife became involved in an ongoing verbal argument. The dispute escalated at which time the female victim was assaulted over a period of time.

The victim subsequently left the residence and contacted police. The victim was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, the suspect was located in the area of the 400 block of Rue Desautels.

Members from the Tactical Support Team were utilized for the purpose of removing the suspect from the residence.

This was accomplished without incident.

A 22 year old male has been charged with: Assault, Utter Threats, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Forcible Confinement and Breach probation.

He was detained in custody.

Assault with a Weapon

On September 19th, 2009 between 9:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., a 17 year old male was occupying a vehicle in the area of Sherbrook Street and Alexander Avenue. It was at this time another vehicle with several occupants approached the 17 year old male and began assaulting him.

It was at this time the victim sped off and several shots were fired in his direction striking him in the upper body.

The victim subsequently attended to a residence in the area of the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue and then an address in the area of the 800 block of Redwood Avenue.

Police were summoned and located the victim.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

Suspicious Death

On September 13th, 2009, a 29 year old female is believed to have attended to the area of the 900 block of Sherbrook Street.

At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the female was involved in a theft at a store and subsequently confronted by an employee. As a result, the female was assaulted and sustained an upper body injury. She fled the area to a nearby residence.

On September 15th, 2009, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified. It was at this time the victim was identified as 29 year old Geraldine Beardy.

On September 18th, 2009 the victim succumbed to injuries.

A 61 year old male has been arrested and is facing charges of Aggravated Assault.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
