Winnipeg Police Service Media Release

Residential Robbery

On August 28th, 2009 at approximately 5:30 a.m., two or three unknown males forced entry into a residence located in the 1200 block of Burrows Avenue.

At the time of the incident, six occupants were forced into a room within the residence by the suspects. One of the victims was assaulted to the upper body, but was not injured as a result.

During a period of approximately an hour and a half the suspects began removing property from within the home. The stolen property was subsequently placed in the victim’s vehicle, which was also stolen by the suspects.

A variety of electronics, jewellery and vehicle were stolen as a result of the incident.

The stolen vehicle is described as: Grey, 2007 Honda Odyssey Van.

The suspects are described as follows:

  • Suspect 1 – Male, 30- 40 years, observed to have facial acne/pimples, wearing: a black zip up “Puma” hoody.
  • Suspect 2 - Male, mid 20’s, thin build, wearing a white or grey t-shirt with black sleeves and white gloves.
  • Suspect 3 – No description provided.

The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

Robbery Arrest

On August 28th, 2009 at approximately 11:00 p.m., a 30 year old male, identified as a vulnerable person, was walking in the area of the 400 block of Sherbrook Street when he was confronted by an unknown male armed with a knife.

The suspect took hold of the victim and threw him to the ground and began assaulting him to the upper body. He then stole a music listening device and jewellery from the victim and subsequently fled the area.

Police were summoned and the suspect was located and arrested a short distance away.

The victim was transported to hospital and treated for his injuries.

A 17 year old male has been charged with: Robbery with a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking x 2.

He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind all members of the public to be aware of personal safety at all times.

  • When possible, travel in pairs or with a group.
  • Carry a personal alarm and carry it in plain view.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid unfamiliar shortcuts.
  • Conceal valuable personal property.
  • Stay on busy well-lighted streets.

Shots Fired

On August 31st, 2009 at approximately 3:30 a.m., uniformed members were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of William Avenue West regarding shots being fired.

The investigation has revealed that the residence sustained damage to its doorway and windows as a result of the incident.

There were several occupants within the residence at the time of the incident.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit and Organized Crime Unit.
