Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release

Cruise Night Traffic Enforcement

The Winnipeg Police Service acknowledges that cruise night has become a City wide phenomenon. The vast majority of individuals who operate vehicles on cruise night chose to do so in a responsible, respectful and legal manner.

However, the Winnipeg Police Service continues to receive complaints regarding racing, dangerous operation of motor vehicles, and noisy operation of motor vehicles. These complaints come from all areas of the city. In order to address these issues the Winnipeg Police Service has deployed resources throughout the city.

As a result of this deployment strategy, two vehicles were observed to be operating at high speeds southbound on McPhillips Street. Police successfully pulled over one of the vehicles. The operator of the vehicle was charged with racing under the Highway Traffic Act and his vehicle was seized.

The Winnipeg Police Service will continue to operate dedicated patrols throughout the summer to address these issues.

Our goal is to ensure the safety of all those that use our roadways, and the Winnipeg Police Service reminds drivers to Just Slow Down.

For further information regarding the "Just Slow Down" Campaign, please visit the website at JustSlowDown.ca.

River Level and Boat Launch Update

The Winnipeg Police River Patrol would like to advise the public that the Red River has risen to 16 feet and all boat launches on the Red and Assiniboine have been closed and barricaded. If they are not closed there are no docks available. This includes the private Redboine boat launch.

The Winnipeg Police Service recommends no one use the rivers as debris has been lifted from the banks and is floating in the extremely swift moving waters.

The Forks walkway is closed and underwater. Home owners should be checking their boats and docks to ensure they are secure. There have been several docks lost in the last two days.

We expect normal water levels to return by mid July - weather dependent.
