Motor Vehicle Collision Involving a Pedestrian

On March 29th, 2009 at approximately 12:30 a.m., East District uniformed members were dispatched to the area of Regent Ave West and Brewster Street regarding a hit and run involving a pedestrian.

At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the seventy year old male victim was attempting to cross Regent Avenue West at Brewster Street in a southbound direction when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

The victim sustained significant lower body injuries as a result of the collision.

The suspect vehicle may have sustained front end damage due to the impact.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident or suspect vehicle is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6271 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS.

Fatal Fire

On May 29th, 2009 at approximately 10:00 p.m., emergency services attended to the area of the first 100 block of Byrd Avenue regarding a working house fire.

It was determined that there were two adult occupants within the residence at the time of the fire, one of whom was able to safely exit without serious injury.

A seventy-nine year old male was located within the residence and transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At this stage of the investigation, the cause of the fire appears accidental.

Members of the Arson Strike Force continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Homicide Arrest

On May 24th, 2009 at approximately 7:15 a.m., uniformed members attended to a suite in the 200 block of Main Street regarding a sudden death investigation.

Upon police arrival, fifty-three year old Robert James GENEREAUX of Winnipeg was located deceased.

The cause of death was initially undetermined pending autopsy results and further investigation.

As a result, it was determined that the cause of death was attributed to blunt force trauma to the upper body. Members of the Homicide Unit were advised and continued with the investigation.

Thirty year old Edward John MUCKLE has been charged with Manslaughter.

He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

The investigation is ongoing.
