Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release
Armed and Barricaded Incident
On April 29th, 2009, shortly after 1:00 A.M., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 600 block of Simcoe Street in regards to a domestic assault.
Upon arrival a 29 year old female was found to be suffering minor upper body injuries. She was taken to hospital where she was treated and released.
A 43 year old male barricaded himself inside a suite and refused to exit. The male indicated to officers he was armed with knives and would harm himself.
The Tactical Support Team attended the scene and traffic on Simcoe Street between Sargent Avenue and Wellington Avenue was blocked.
Around 8:45 A.M. the male was convinced to exit the suite, which he did without incident.
He has been taken into custody and is facing charges of Assault and Breach Probation.
Stabbing - Arrest
On Sunday, April 26th, 2009 shortly after midnight, uniformed members were dispatched to an apartment block in the 300 block of Kennedy Street regarding a stabbing.
An altercation occurred in a suite between three females and as a result, two nineteen year old females were conveyed to hospital with multiple stab wounds.
One of the victims sustained a stab wound to the upper body and was initially transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.
The second victim received minor injuries to extremities and was treated at hospital and released.
The Division #11 Crime Unit investigated this incident and has charged Desiree Jocelyn MCKAY, 18 years, of Winnipeg with Assault with a Weapon X 2.
She has been detained in custody.
