For Immediate Release

Fraud Arrest

On December 11th, 2008, a male allegedly attended to a bar in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue for the purpose of selling roses on behalf of a false organization for illegitimate charitable purposes. He subsequently sold several flowers to patrons for personal gain.

Police were notified of the incident at which time an investigation commenced.

On Monday, December 29th, 2008 the same male allegedly attended to a gas bar in the 500 block of Pembina Highway where he defrauded the clerk of money for the purpose of getting his vehicle towed. Again, the circumstances were false and the male made off with money by fraudulent means.

On the same day, the suspect male returned to the gas bar indicating he wished to repay the amount previously taken. He presented a fraudulent cheque for a larger amount and attempted to make off with an additional amount of money.

Police were summoned and the suspect was arrested at the scene.  Members of the District 6 Crime Unit became involved in the investigation and have charged thirty-nine year old William Joseph SIMPSON with the following offences:

  • Fraud Under $1000.00 x 2
  • Utter Forged Documents

The male was detained in custody.

District 3 Members Help A Family In Need

On December 20th, 2008 at approximately 2:00 a.m., District 3 uniformed members attended to a residence in the north end area of the city.

Upon arrival, these members observed young children within the residence who had been subjected to a substantial amount of neglect and abuse.

These members felt compelled to see that these children had some gifts to open Christmas morning, with hopes to provide them with some enjoyment during a very troubling time in their young lives.

District 3 members, including Staff members from the Winnipeg Police Service Communication Centre collected funds for the purpose of purchasing gifts for the children.

The gifts were taken to the children by several officers who organized this initiative.

Although these gifts will not necessarily nullify what these children have gone through, it may help them in the healing process.

These members have gone above and beyond in order to make a small difference in this family’s life.
