Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release
Sexual Assault Arrest
On Saturday, August, 30th, 2008, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a 26 year old female was walking in the area Arlington Street and Notre Dame Avenue, when she was approached by a male who attempted to engage her in conversation. The female attempted to leave the area and was subsequently sexually assaulted by the culprit.
A Winnipeg Police Officer observed the assault and immediately came to the aid of the female victim.
With the assistance of other members, a 22 year old male was arrested for the following offences;
- Sexual Assault
- Breach of Probation x 2
- Fail to Comply with conditions of a Recognizance x 2
He was detained in custody.
Robbery Incident
On Thursday, August, 28th, 2008 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 32 year old male was walking in the area of Pritchard Avenue and Parr Street when he was approached by several adult males, one brandishing a knife.
The victim was assaulted and his wallet stolen, with the suspects fleeing the area.
The victim sustained minor injuries requiring no medical attention.
The suspects are described as follows;
- Caucasian male, 19-20 years, black curly hair, 6’1” in height, wearing; black (Yankees) baseball cap, black shirt and black jeans.
- Male, aboriginal in appearance, 5’10”-5’11” in height, shaved head, pock marks on cheeks, wearing; baseball cap, red shirt, in possession of a knife.
- Additional suspects (six); Males, aboriginal in appearance, 17-21 years of age, wearing short sleeve baggy jerseys.
The investigation is continuing by Division 13 Crime Unit. Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Arson Arrests
On Saturday, August, 31st, 2008 at approximately 9:00 a.m., uniformed members were dispatched to an unrelated matter in the area of the 200 block of Stella Walk.
While on scene, a confrontation commenced outside the residence between numerous individuals. The situation escalated to the point where additional officers were required to attend the scene.
Uniformed members were subjected to belligerent and aggressive individuals throughout the incident. Three officers involved received minor injuries as a result.
At one point during the incident, it is alleged that four of the instigators attended to a nearby vehicle and set it on fire.
As a result of the efforts of numerous officers, 5 adults and 1 youth were arrested for numerous property related offences including assault peace officer(s).
The investigation is continuing. There is no further information at this time.
