Firearms Arrest and Seizure
On July 29, 2008 members of the Winnipeg Police Service Organized Crime Unit with the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit, the Tactical Support Team and NWEST members, executed a search warrant for firearms at a suite in the 3500 block of Portage Avenue.
A Sten sub-machine gun, a high capacity magazine, a shot gun and a quantity of Marihuana was seized as a result of the search.
Three males, aged 22, 24 and 25 years of age were arrested in connection with the seizure and are facing a number of firearms related charges. The 25 year old was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
All three suspects were released on a Promise to Appear.
Arrest Made In College Avenue Incident
On July 26, 2008 at 4:00 a.m., a number of males became involved in a verbal dispute at the rear of a residence in the 500 block of College Avenue. The dispute escalated resulting in an unknown male being physically assaulted and stabbed by one of the males.
The victim was placed in a vehicle by the suspects who then left the area. The victim in the matter has yet to be indentified and no information in relation to the extent of his injuries is available.
On July 28, 2008 eighteen year old Anthony Robert COTE was arrested by members of the Organized Crime Unit in connection with the incident. He was charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Forcible Confinement and was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
The investigation is continuing by the Organized Crime Unit. Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance from anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activities within the area on July 26th, between 02:00 and 05:00 a.m. Investigators are also requesting information pertaining to the identity of the victim or other suspects in this matter.
