Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release
Commercial Robbery
On January 29th 2008, three suspects armed with pepper spray entered a drinking establishment located in the 600 block of La Fleche Street. Once inside the establishment, the suspects sprayed the interior of the bar, including three patrons. The suspects, prior to police arrival, stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
As a result of the spray, the three patrons were conveyed to hospital for medical attention for non life-threatening injuries.
The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect #1: Dark skinned male, 19-23 years, approximately 5’10”, having a medium build, with an afro hair style. At the time he was seen to be wearing a red bandana over his face, a zip up style hoodie and black gloves.
Suspect #2: Caucasian male, 19-24 years, having blondish hair, with a similar build as suspect #1. He was observed to be wearing a white jacket/ hoodie and blue jeans.
Suspect #3: No description available.
The investigation is continuing by the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with any information in regards to either the incident or the suspects is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers, 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Stabbing
On January 31st 2008, at approximately 12:10 a.m. Division 11 Uniform members were dispatched to the 300 block of Beverley in regards to a stabbing.
The investigation revealed that a verbal dispute between two females had taken place. The verbal dispute escalated to the point where a seventeen year old female was stabbed in the midsection, as well, an adult male was also stabbed, as he tried to intercede.
Both victims were treated for non life threatening injuries and released.
A twenty-two year female is currently in police custody and is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon X 2, Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance X 2 and Possessing a Controlled Drug or Substance.
Break and Enter Commercial
Between November 10th 2007 and January 28th 2008, a significant number of commercial businesses were broken into, where miscellaneous cash and property was stolen.
On January 29th 2008, two suspects stole a vehicle, and broke into a number of other businesses, within both the St. Vital and River Heights areas. Stolen from these businesses were a quantity of cash, electronics, and merchandise.
The total value of cash, electronics, and merchandise stolen, was estimated at over $50,000.
On January 30th 2008, Division 16 Uniform members on patrol observed a vehicle being operated at a high rate of speed in the area of Stafford Street. The vehicle was subsequently identified as a stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled the area prior to Police, being able to stop it.
Winnipeg Police were alerted a short time later in regards to a single vehicle collision, near the 1000 block of Jessie Avenue., where two occupants were observed to flee from the vehicle.
Division 16 Uniform members immediately attended and located the vehicle which had previously fled. With the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service Canine Unit, a male was apprehended within the immediate area, near the 900 block of Mulvey Avenue and was arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle.
Further investigation, revealed the arrested male was allegedly involved in the numerous commercial break and enters.
Twenty-three year old Aaron Matthew LAWRENCE has been charged with Break and Enter X 16, Theft over $5000.00, Theft under $5000.00, Fraud under $5000.00 and Breach Probation in connection with the break-ins and the stolen vehicle.
Subsequent investigation by Division 16 detectives resulted in the arrest of twenty seven year old Edward Timothy POSTEL in connection with both the stolen vehicle and break ins. POSTEL was charged with Break and Enter X 16, Theft over $5000.00 and Theft Under $5000.00
Both males were detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Stolen Auto Arrest
On January 30th 2008, at approximately 4:22 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service Stolen Auto Unit were conducting ongoing investigations regarding stolen vehicles in the North end of the city, near the 400 block of Anderson.
Stolen Auto Unit members observed 4 youths approach a stolen vehicle and act in a suspicious manner. As Stolen Auto Unit members approached the youths, all four fled on foot. With the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Canine Unit, three out of the four youths were arrested.
Three males, aged 16 years, were charged with Possess Goods Obtained by Crime over $5000.00, and a variety of other offences. All were detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
Stolen Auto Arrest
On January 30th, 2008 at 3:30 a.m members of the Winnipeg Police Service Stolen Auto Unit were conducting ongoing investigations regarding a stolen vehicles in the Maples area of the city.rea of the 700 block of Adsum Drive.
A number of youths were observed driving a stolen vehicle in the 700 block of Adsum Drive. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee as Stolen Auto Unit members and Division 13 Uniform members attempted to stop the vehicle but was unsuccessful.
Two males, aged fifteen and seventeen, were charged with Theft Over $5,000.00 and a variety of other offences. Both were detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
Further To - Impaired Driver Arrested
On December 22nd, 2007, shortly after 6:00 p.m., a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Pembina Hwy and Merriam Avenue when he collided with another vehicle causing extensive damage. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and arrested the male.
As a result of this incident Henry Arnold MOED, 53 yrs of Winnipeg is charged with Drive Impaired and Failure to Provide Breath Samples.
Further To - Impaired Driver Arrested
On January 1st, 2008, shortly before 3:00 a.m., a male was found slumped over the wheel by passing motorists in the area of Dugald Road and Panet Road. Police were called and members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended.
As a result of this incident Bipin Kumar SHARMA, 18 yrs of Winnipeg is charged with Impaired Driving, Failure to Provide Breath Samples and Operate Vehicle While Restricted to 0 BAC.
