Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release
Attempt Robbery Arrest
On January 27th, 2007 at 11:30 p.m., two males aged twenty and twenty six, were walking in the area of Leila Avenue and Simkin Street. A vehicle stopped next to them and a male occupant in the vehicle demanded property and money from the males. When the males did not comply with the demand, the occupant produced a firearm and discharged it in the direction of the males. The males who fled the area and notified police were not injured as a result of the incident.
As a result of the investigation, nineteen year old Robert James BOUSQUET was arrested on January 29th in connection with the robbery. BOUSQUET has been charged with Robbery with Firearm X 2, Use a Firearm while Committing an Offence X 2, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Careless Use of a Firearm, Point Firearm X 2, Discharge Firearm with Intent and Fail to Comply with the Conditions of a Recognizance.
BOUSQUET was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. The investigation is continuing by the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit.
Robbery Arrest
On January 22nd and January 26th, 2007, a male brandishing a knife entered a convenience store in the 300 block of Aberdeen Street while a female kept watch outside the store. The male demanded money from the clerk and the pair fled the area with an undisclosed amount of cash.
On January 29th at 7:30 p.m., the same male armed with a knife and female entered the same convenience store and fled with the cash register and contents.
The suspects were observed to be in possession of the cash register by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit and Stolen Auto Unit that were in the area on unrelated matters at the time and were promptly arrested.
Thirty year old Kevin SAINNAWAP has been charged with Robbery with a Weapon X 3. Twenty-nine year old Annie Agnes HOULE has been charged with Robbery with a Weapon X 3 and Breach of Probation X 2. Both were detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Residential Robbery
On January 26th, 2007 a male attended a residence in the 300 block of Larsen Avenue and asked the resident for money for shovelling her driveway. As the elderly resident went to get her purse, the male forced the door open, stole the woman's purse containing cash and personal items and fled the area. The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his late teens with a slim build and short brown hair. He was wearing a black jacket and toque.
The investigation is continuing by Division 14 detectives.
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind the public to be vigilant when approached by persons requesting money for snow clearing if the service has not been requested. Keep doors locked at all times and do not let anyone into your home if you do choose to pay for their services.
Male Charged for Personation
On January 29th, 2007 at 9:15 p.m., a male attended a restaurant in the 400 block of Wilton Street and purchased food and beverages with a stolen credit card.
At 11:45 p.m., the male approached Uniform Officers who attended the restaurant on an unrelated matter and identified himself as a police officer from another jurisdiction, claiming to be a personal friend of a Winnipeg Police Service officer.
Further investigation revealed that the male was not a police officer, nor an acquaintance of the mentioned Winnipeg Police Service member.
Twenty-four year old Devon Shane BRANDON of Winnipeg was charged with Personating a Peace Officer, Fraud Under $5,000.00, Theft Under $5,000.00, Failing to Comply with the Conditions of a Recognizance and Breach of Probation.
Drug Arrest
On January 29th, 2007, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Organized Crime Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act at a residence in the 300 block of Garlies Street resulting in the seizure of twenty ounces of Crack Cocaine with a street value of approximately $22,000.00 as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia.
A twenty-seven year old male was arrested at the residence and is facing charges of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released on a Promise to Appear.
