For Immediate Release

Break and Enter Arrest

On November 18th, 2006, a male attended the residence of an eighty-three year old female in the 600 block of Polson Avenue and offered snow removal services. The eighty-three year old resident declined his offer at which time the male forced his way into the residence, locked her in a room and threatened her. The male then left the residence with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On November 24th, the male forced his way into the residence of a seventy-nine year old male in the 800 block of Alfred Avenue. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and fled the residence with an undisclosed amount of cash

On November 28th, the male entered a residence through the rear door in the 400 block of Atlantic Avenue while the elderly resident was shovelling snow at the front of the house. The suspect fled the residence with an undisclosed amount of cash and personal items.

A police investigation has revealed that, between June 2004 and November 2006, the male would perform odd jobs for a number of elderly persons in the north end of the city. Subsequent to this, it is alleged that he took advantage of his position to steal items from the residences or the garages. The male would also return to the victims' residences at a later date, break in while they were away, and steal personal items.

As a result of the investigation by District 3 detectives, thirty-two year old Conrad Colin CHARTRAND has been charged with Break and Enter X 3, Robbery with Violence, Theft Under $5,000.00 X 5 and Failing to Comply with the Conditions of a Recognizance. CHARTRAND was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.

School Safety Patrol Website

The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to announce the development of the School Safety Patrol website developed by the Winnipeg Police Service School Education Section and a number of partners in the School Safety Patrol Program.

The website was developed as another tool to communicate with and assist School Patrols and Patrol Supervisors. It provides training material, online forms for traffic safety issues, patrol evaluation information, patrol incentives and the history of the program to assist in filling a gap in programming.

There are currently more than 8000 School Patrols and 300 Supervisors at 184 schools throughout Winnipeg. Further additions to the site will be made in the near future.

The School Safety Patrol section of this website can be found at www.winnipeg.ca/police/SchoolPatrols. For more information on the website or the School Safety Patrol Program, please contact Patrol Sergeant Steve Dolyniuk at 204-803-0394.
