Traffic Pursuit

On August 31st, 2005 shortly after 1:00 a.m. police observed a stolen 1992 Jeep Cherokee in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Sherbrook Street. The stolen vehicle fled from police and was pursued into the North End. The vehicle attempted to turn at a high rate of speed in the area of Inkster Blvd and Aikins Street at which time it came into contact with the cruiser car and flipped over onto its roof.

Two male occupants of the stolen vehicle fled on foot and were chased by officers. One male was arrested without incident. The second male was arrested after confronting an officer and assaulting him.

One officer received minor injuries after being punched in the upper body and a second officer received minor injuries during the foot pursuit. Both were treated at hospital and released.

The two males in the stolen vehicle were not injured when the vehicle flipped onto it's roof.

A 17 year old male youth has been arrested and is facing charges of Theft Over $5,000 and Assaulting a Peace Officer.

An 18 year old male has also been arrested and is facing charges of Theft Over $5,000, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Flight from Police Officer.

 

Composite Sketch Released

On August 30th, 2005 the Winnipeg Police Service released a Public Advisory in regards to male who attempted to lure a child from a yard in the area of McGee Street and St Matthews Avenue.

Investigation revealed that a male had attempted to lure a young child out of the yard of a residence in the area. The child's mother intervened and the male fled the area on foot.

The Winnipeg Police Service has completed the following composite of the suspect:

Members of the public are advised to be aware of a person matching the following description:

Male, approximately 65 years of age, Asian in appearance, 5'5” tall, 130 lbs, with short grey hair. The male was wearing a white long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, green suspenders, a plaid coloured vest and a green baseball cap. The male had a hunched over stature and walked with a pronounced shuffle.
