Photo Enforcement Poles Painted by Students

On May 13th, 2005 the Winnipeg Police Service enlisted expert artistic assistance from students at two Winnipeg elementary schools. Students created their own unique themes and painted two of the poles and camera housing units at the Photo Enforcement processing centre. The two hand painted poles are now installed at intersections nearest to their schools.

The poles will enable the children of our community to remind motorists to pay attention to our speeds and red lights. Let us be cognizant of our children’s message, let us lead by example and demonstrate to our future drivers what road safety is all about.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a lone male traveling northbound in a Buick Le Sabre on St. Mary’s Road between Poplarwood Avenue and Portland Avenue pulled up alongside a 15-year-old female pedestrian whom he did not know. He offered the girl a ride and when she declined, he followed her in his vehicle for a short distance continuing to invite her into his car. She again declined and the male left the area.

The observant teenaged girl recorded the male’s vehicle plate number and told her parents immediately about the incident. The Winnipeg Police Service was contacted and uniform members of Division #15 investigated.
