Homicide Investigation on Flora Avenue
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. this morning, uniform members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an assault on Flora Avenue near McKenzie Street.
Upon arrival, police located an 18-year-old male lying on the street suffering from stab wounds. The victim was conveyed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide members are presently interviewing a number of witnesses however no arrests have been made. The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin. Cause of death has not yet been determined. The investigation is continuing.
Prostitution Sweep Arrests
Yesterday evening, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Morals Unit with the assistance of general patrol members conducted a prostitution sweep in the areas bounded by Sargent Avenue, Ellice Avenue, Spence Street and Arlington Street as well as Main Street, Arlington Street, Burrows Avenue, and Dufferin Avenue.
Police arrested twelve females between the ages of 16 and 45 years for prostitution-related offences. Ten adult females were charged with Communicate in a Public Place for the Purpose of Prostitution and were released on Promise to Appear. Two female youths were cautioned in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act and were turned over to Child and Family Services.
Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Cyclist
At approximately 5:00 p.m. this evening members of the Winnipeg Police
Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist, on
Bison Drive between Waverley St. and Markham Rd.
The cyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance in critical condition with
undetermined injuries. The cyclist has since succumbed to the injuries
received in this collision.
The Winnipeg Police Service has not been able to identify the cyclist and
is seeking the assistance of the public to do so.
The cyclist is described as: Caucasian male, approximately 60 years
of age, wearing a blue button down style “Bum Equipment” shirt, a white
baseball cap, white Nike brand runners, and “Foster Grant” brand
sunglasses.
The male was riding a “Miele Tivoli Alu 6061” Mountain bike with front and
rear baskets attached.
