Police Find Missing 5-year-old Child
Last night, the Winnipeg Police Service received a report that a 5-year-old female child had gone missing shortly after 6:30 p.m. yesterday evening. The child was last seen near a park located at the corner of McKenzie Street and Stella Avenue
The Winnipeg Police Service dedicated numerous resources to the search for this child including uniform patrol members, detectives, foot patrol officers and coordinating supervisors. Police deployed a ground search team and enlisted the assistance of Child Find Manitoba as they coordinated an extensive search of the area.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. today, the child was found safe and sound by police members after she spent the night at a nearby residence.
This incident highlights the need for parents to be mindful of the names and addresses of your children’s playmates. It is also a reminder to all citizens to act responsibly when taking someone else’s children into their homes. A child’s parents should always be consulted before allowing the child to stay particularly if the child is going to be staying overnight.
Male Arrested in Thefts at Hospitals and Schools
Between May 16, 2003 and June 10, 2005 there have been several reports made to the Winnipeg Police Service regarding thefts of wallets and purses from vacant offices at various businesses, hospitals and schools in the City of Winnipeg.
On June 10th, 2005 shortly after 10:00 a.m. a lone male attended to the Victoria Hospital and gained entry to a locker room where he stole a laboratory coat and disguised himself as a doctor. The suspect then began rummaging through doctors’ lockers and was observed by a staff member. When confronted, the suspect identified himself as a doctor. Hospital security members determined he was not an employee and contacted police.
Police arrested the male and conducted an investigation. David Andres, 67 years of no fixed address is charged with Theft Under X 8, Personation, Possess Goods Obtained by Crime and Forgery. He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
The following locations appear to have been targeted: Deer Lodge Centre, Seven Oaks Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, the Bannatyne Campus at the University of Manitoba and the Victoria Hospital. The investigation is continuing.
Lost Medication
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 9th, 2005 a wheelchair-bound male was using a payphone at the corner of Elgin Avenue and Ellen Street when an unknown person stole his blue Nike backpack which he had placed on the ground while using the telephone.
The backpack contained various prescription medications including: Morphine, Diclofenas and Docusate Sodium.
The ingestion of these medications alone or in combination with other medications, alcohol or drugs could have serious effects and may in some circumstances be lethal.
If found, please drop off at any police station or hospital.
