Missing 14-Year-Old Located
Yesterday evening, the Winnipeg Police Service requested the assistance of the public in locating Renee Courchene who had gone missing from her home. The 14 year-old has been located and is safe and sound.

Firearms seized on Dominion Street
Yesterday evening shortly before 8:00 p.m. detectives from the Winnipeg Police Service Districts 2 and 3 executed a firearms search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Dominion Street. Police seized 35 long guns and 49 hand guns from a 64-year-old male who is believed to be a gun collector.
The suspect faces firearms charges related to improper registration and unsafe storage. He was released on a Promise to Appear.
Police Investigating Shots Fired on Empress Street
At approximately 2:30 a.m. uniform members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to several shots fired allegedly by a passing vehicle in the area of Empress Street and St. Matthews Avenue. The shots do not appear to have been directed at any person or property.
Police have a suspect in custody however the investigation is still ongoing and charges have not been laid. A handgun has been recovered.
Marihuana Grow Operation Located
Yesterday evening shortly before 6:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 800 block of Home Street regarding an alleged break and enter. Police discovered a marihuana grow operation and a search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence.
Police seized grow equipment and 155 marihuana plants with an estimated street value of $173,600. The investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made at this time.
Witnesses Sought in Sexual Assault Investigation
Between 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. on June 7, 2005, two hitch hikers were picked up on Highway #1 East between Deacon’s Corner and the Perimeter Highway by a passing motorist who drove them into Winnipeg. They were dropped off at St. Anne’s Road and Fermor Avenue.
The hitch hikers are described as: a male, approximately 40 years of age and a female, approximately 35 years of age.
The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating an alleged sexual assault case involving the hitch hikers and the witnesses may be able to provide information regarding the case.
The passing motorist and his female passenger were in a newer model gray car.
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying these two witnesses. Anyone with information regarding them is encouraged to contact detectives of the Sex Crimes Unit at 986-6245.
Update on Fatal MVC at Portage & Wallasey
On June 6, 2005, the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred on June 5, 2005 at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Wallasey Street.
Police are still requesting the public’s assistance in locating a newer model Mustang, GT, (possibly 2001 to 2004) which is described only as dark in colour.
Police are also looking for the driver and a passenger of the Mustang.
The driver is described as a male, Hispanic in appearance, 25 to 30 years of age, with a stocky build and he was unshaven wearing glasses at the time of the incident. He may have a dark mole or blemish on the left side of his face.
The passenger is described as a Caucasian male with light coloured hair and light coloured eyes.
Anyone with information regarding the driver, the passenger or the vehicle being sought by police is encouraged to contact investigators in the Traffic Division at 986-7243 or Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS (8477). Police are also looking for any witnesses that may have seen this vehicle or its occupants the night of the incident.
