Officer Injured During Arrest

On June 1st shortly after midnight members of Winnipeg Police Service District # 3 General Patrol responded to an address in the 200 block of Austin Street. They met a female resident who requested that police remove a male who did not reside there. This male was intoxicated and belligerent; he picked up a lamp and threw it at officers striking the wall. He continued to resist and subsequently threw a metal barstool at officers striking one of them in the leg. The male was subdued by officers, one of whom suffered a broken finger on his right hand.

James Patrick Nelson, 45 years of Geraldton, Ontario has been charged with: Assault a Peace Officer, Assault with a Weapon, and Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest.

 

Officers Seize Weapons

On Tuesday, June 1st shortly before 3:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service District # 1 Community Support Unit attended to an address in the 500 block of McDermot Avenue on an unrelated matter. While in the residence, on an unrelated matter, officers observed approximately 40 computers, 50 bicycles, as well as a loaded 22 caliber rifle, and home made crossbow weapons.

Police are continuing the investigation.

A 38 year old male and a 25 year old male face several property and weapon related offences.

 

Bank Fraud

An elderly person was defrauded out of $5,000.00 by a person pretending to be a bank inspector.

This type of scam usually involves the culprit approaching the victim as they leave a bank and identifying himself as a bank inspector. The victim is convinced to withdraw a large sum of cash and turn it over to the Inspector as part of an internal operation to catch a dishonest bank employee.

 

Male Arrested for Stabbing

On Tuesday, the Winnipeg Police Service reported a stabbing incident. Alexander Doyle, 18 years of age of Winnipeg has been arrested by members of Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit.

Doyle faces numerous charges.

 

Missing Female

Winnipeg Police Service is seeking the publics assistance in locating a missing 19 year old female last seen Tuesday, May 31st. This female has a medical condition and requires treatment.

Missing is 19 year old Holly Meeches. She is aboriginal, 4’8”, very small build, short dark hair, puffy cheeks. She was last seen wearing wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans.

She is known to frequent the West Broadway area.

If anyone sees her or knows of her whereabouts please notify the Winnipeg Police Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250 or call the dispatch centre at 986-6222.

 

Motor Vehicle Collision Involving School Bus

On Thursday June 2nd, 2005 at approximately 4:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were called to the 1500 block of King Edward St. regarding a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival it was determined that a collision had occurred between a school bus and a highway tractor/trailer.

The school bus was occupied by 38 adults and children from a school located outside of Winnipeg. 7 children from the school bus were transported by Ambulance to hospital as a precautionary measure, and are all in stable condition.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service continue to investigate the incident at this time.

Homicide Investigation on Talbot Avenue

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. this evening, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male assaulted near Talbot Avenue and Watt Street. A male was located and transported in critical condition to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin and the cause of death has not yet been determined.

Several people are being interviewed while the Homicide Unit investigates.

Missing Person Holly Meeches Located

Earlier today the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public’s assistance in locating a missing person, Holly Meeches.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. this evening, police located the missing female who has returned safely to her family. Thank you to the media and the public for their assistance in this matter.
