Shooting Investigated
At approximately 1:30 p.m. this afternoon police were called regarding
a robbery or attempt robbery, that took place on Martin Avenue. The victim
indicated that a group of youths were involved and they had left the area
in a taxi.
Attending officers were able to determine that a taxi had dropped the
group of males off in the area of King and Dufferin. Officers attended to
that area and spotted a group of male youths. Upon seeing police one of
the youths separated from the group and police gave chase on foot.
It is alleged at this time that the suspect was armed with a knife and
confronted the officers. It is believed that a scuffle ensued and shot was
fired, striking the victim. The victim was conveyed to the Health Sciences
Centre Children’s Centre in critical condition, and later pronounced
deceased at the hospital .
The Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit is currently investigating.
