Lateral Entry Eligibility

The Winnipeg Police Service offers a lateral entry program to those individuals who are interested in continuing their Policing career with the Winnipeg Police Service. To be eligible as a lateral entry candidate, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum qualifications as set out for lateral entry candidates.
  2. Be a serving member of a Police Organization whose standards and training are comparable to those of the Winnipeg Police Service, as determined by the Winnipeg Police Recruiting/Human Resources Unit.
  3. Be eligible for an honourable discharge from the Police Service of which they are a current member.
  4. Have a minimum of two (2) years continuous police experience.
  5. Meet the physical fitness standards of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS-PAT), panel interview, background investigation, psychological and medical testing.
  6. Non-acceptance as a lateral entry candidate does not preclude eligible individuals from competing for a position through the regular recruitment process.

Prospective Police Constable Applicants Please Note:

The Winnipeg Police Service is not accepting applications for Police Constable at the present time. Please check the website periodically for information on the next Recruit Class application intake.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications for the positions of Constable and Auxiliary Force Cadet will be accepted at Winnipeg Police Headquarters, main floor, 245 Smith Street (enter at the the corner of Smith & Graham). Applications are accepted Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Applicants please take a number prior to taking a seat and wait for your number to be called to speak to a representative and submit your application.

IF YOUR EDUCATION WAS ATTAINED OUTSIDE OF CANADA, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AN ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS ASSESSMENT TO APPLY FOR ANY POSITION WITHIN THE WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE, EVEN IF YOU HAVE APPLIED WITH US BEFORE. THIS REPORT CAN TAKE SOME TIME TO ACQUIRE. PLEASE REFER TO OUR WEBSITE UNDER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE LINK TO A RECOGNIZED CANADIAN ASSESSMENT SERVICE. ONLY A BASIC/GENERAL REPORT IS REQUIRED TO APPLY AND YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO APPLY WITHOUT ONE.
