Name Our Horses Contest Winners
The Winnipeg Police Service Mounted Patrol Unit launched a contest on May 7th, 2008 to find a name for each of our new horses. The contest was open to all Winnipeg resident elementary school students and closed on June 15th, 2008.
The response to the “Naming the Horses” contest was unbelievable with 705 entries of names for the horses being received. It was wonderful to see the response from the students in regards to the contest, and we thank them all for their participation.
The Winnipeg Police Service is proud to formally introduce the two newest members of the Mounted Patrol Unit.
The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to recognize 9 year old Sydney Coutu of Neil Campbell Elementary School for her entry and the selection of the name of AMARO (meaning strong) for one of the horses.
The Winnipeg Police Service is also pleased to recognize 10 year old Kaiden Garnham of Ecole Henri-Bergeron School for his entry and the selection of the name of TITUS (meaning giant) for the second horse.
Both winners will be receiving a certificate of recognition from the Winnipeg Police Service and will have their photo taken with the horse they named. They will also be receiving prizes generously donated from the Horse and Company in Oakbank, Manitoba, and The Winnipeg Police Service.
