Prostitution Is A Crime

Prostitution causes serious community, social and health problems, including:

  • Increased danger to neighbourhood children, due to
    • Child exploitation
    • A higher volume of vehicular traffic
    • Discarded condoms and needles
  • Neighbourhood decay
  • High risk of contacting a sexually transmitted disease (STD), including HIV, hepatitis and gonorrhea

Anyone who is arrested for a prostitution-related crime may face the following consequences:

  • Winnipeg Police Service Morals UnitArrest
  • Court appearance  (which is open to the public)
  • A criminal record
  • Towing, seizure and possible forfeiture of the vehicle they were driving
  • The registered owner of the vehicle is notified of the circumstances behind the seizure of their property

NOTIFY THE POLICE

Prostitution offences are investigated by the Winnipeg Police Service Morals Unit.  This unit is a component of the Vice Division. This unit is responsible for enforcing all related Criminal Code laws as well as the City of Winnipeg By-Laws regarding escort agencies and massage parlors.
