2016 Western Canadian Robbery Investigators Conference

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit is proud to host the upcoming 2016 Western Canadian Robbery Investigators Conference from May 25th to May 27th, 20016.

The conference will be held at the Radisson Hotel Winnipeg Downtown, 288 Portage Avenue.

Planned speakers for the conference include members of the FBI presenting a breakdown of the Boston Marathon bombings from 2013 and the manhunt that followed. Also, former WPS members will walk delegates through the complex investigation surrounding the former criminal exploits of Gerald Blanchard coined “Project Kite”.

The conference will bring together members of the Police and Corporate Security community.

Delegates will receive insight on critical issues and tactics used in the successful prosecution of robbery and other major cases, as well as information on crime trends and technological advancements that impact investigations.

  1. Do we get a tax receipt?
    • Upon request.

  2. Are there “Meet and Greets” set up? What other social activities are planned?
    • Meet & Greet - Planned for Tuesday May 24th 2016 from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.. Delegates can pre-register and received their information packets. A meet and greet will be provided in the TD Bank hospitality suite from 6 pm until close.
    • Wednesday “NIGHT OUT”
      Come join us at the Pony Corral – 444 St. Mary Ave. for some complimentary beverages and appetizers from 5-9 p.m. Transportation will be provided. Afterwards enjoy the city or come join us in the TD Bank hospitality suite.

    • Thursday night “GALA DINNER @ RADISSON.
    • TD BANK HOSPITALITY ROOM – Open Tuesday (6 1 a.m.), Wednesday & Thursday (5 p.m. to 1 a.m.), available to all registered delegates.

  3. How much is the registration fee?
    • Enrolment to the Conference will be in the form of 2 tier payment:
      • Early Bird -$375.00 (prior to Feb 28th),
      • Late Registration: $425.00 (Mar 1 - April 15th)
    • **NO payment or enrollment for the course will happen after April 15th**

  4. What are the hotel rates at the Radisson?
    • $159.00/night, for single or double bed occupancy.
      This is booked through the hotel. Mention the Western Canadian Robbery Conference when booking your accommodations.

  5. What meals are included?
    • Beside the Gala Dinner held Thursday night, the following will be included:
        • Buffet breakfast - consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, fruit juices, tea, coffee, waters, pastries and preserves
        • Lunch –Taste of Italy Salads/Pasta/Breadsticks. Second lunch will consist of soup and deli style wraps/sandwiches with all the fixings
      • FRIDAY
        • Continental breakfast – consisting of bagels ,muffins croissants, cream cheeses, fruit and preserves
      • Delegates will be responsible for their own dinners except for the gala dinner on Thursday evening which will be included.

  6. What’s included in the Gala Dinner?
    The Gala dinner will be held at the Radisson downtown. Delegates are reminded that dinner is semi- formal (no jeans)

    A full buffet dinner will be provided with a roast beef carvery, chicken, potatoes, vegetable and salads, full desert table and wine. A cash bar will be availble.

    GUEST SPEAKER – Shane "The Sheriff" Hnidy (TSN)  Shane "The Sheriff" Hnidy  is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. Hnidy enjoyed a long and successful professional hockey career in the NHL and several other top notch leagues. From 2000 to 2011 he helped the Senators, Thrashers and Bruins to several NHL playoff appearances and was a key member of each teams success.

Shane Hnidy

    Over the course of his career he was one of the most consistent defensemen in the league, even scoring 16 goals to add to his already stellar reputation as a stopper and a leader for his teams.  Since 2011, Hnidy has been part of the Winnipeg Jets broadcast team on TSN Radio 1290.
