News Room – Inside the Winnipeg Police Service

Winnipeg Police Service Proud to be a Part of Canada Day Celebrations!

CanadaWinnipeg Police are proud to be playing a supporting role in tomorrow’s Canada Day celebrations. Members from across the Service will be on hand at many of the larger events to help ensure a safe and enjoyable time for all.

Notably:

  • Watch for a uniform presence at both The Forks and Osborne Village celebrations throughout the day. Officers will be providing passing attention to many of the smaller events throughout Winnipeg as well.
  • Members of the Community Relations Unit, Community Volunteer program and our mascot Copper will be on hand during the day at the Assiniboine Park festivities.
  • The Winnipeg Police Pipe Band will be performing at the Lyric Stage in Assiniboine Park at approximately 3;30 p.m.
  • Members of the Central Traffic Unit will be at The Forks location to monitor and assist with vehicular access to and from the site, where it is expected between 60,000-80,000 people will attend.

Parking at The Forks is expected to be at a premium. Please note there is also a Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball game slated for 4 p.m. on Canada Day.

Visitors are encouraged to consider Winnipeg Transit as an option for getting to and from The Forks.

Officers will be restricting vehicular access to The Forks once we are notified parking at the site has reached capacity.

Tache Avenue between Provencher Blvd. and Despins St. will be closed to traffic starting at 8 p.m. as the street will be used as a fireworks viewing area.

Main Street between Goulet Ave. and York Ave. as well as Provencher Blvd. from Waterfront Drive Drive to Tache Ave. will be closed to traffic following the fireworks (approximately 11:30 p.m.) to allow for a safer egress for all those exiting The Forks site.

Osborne Street from River Ave. to McMillan Ave. will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 p.m. this evening June 30 and will not –reopen until approx. 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 2
