Respect in Sport
WPS Basketball takes on Big Blue in Friendly Baskeball Game

Respect in sport, leads to respect in the classroom and in the community.

That is a message members of the Winnipeg Police Service Basketball team have been sharing with Winnipeg students over the winter. The efforts culminated with a celebratory friendly basketball game at Arthur A Leach School against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Every year our team made up of Constables, Patrol Sergeants, Inspectors and our Chief of Police, Devon Clunis, go out and play Varsity basketball teams as part of our "Respect in Sport" initiative. This year we have already played at Sisler High School, Miles MacDonnell Collegiate, Technical Vocational School, King’s School, Elmwood High School, Grant Park High School and West St. Paul School, to name a few.

Our connection and interaction with the students is not only fun and entertaining, but an opportunity for a positive relationship with the school community helping to bridge the gap between police and the students.

The game at Arthur A. Leach was part of the larger celebrations in Winnipeg following the announcement that our community would be hosting the 2015 Grey Game.
