Winnipeg police and the City of Winnipeg officially broke ground on a new home for some very special members of the Winnipeg Police Service.
After more than a decade, the Winnipeg Police Service has started work on a kennel for the four-legged members of its K-9 unit.
The new facility will cost about $1.25 million and will include 11 indoor air-conditioned kennels as well as classrooms, grooming rooms and birthing rooms.
The K-9 unit currently consists of 12 officers and 23 Belgian Shepherd service dogs. Together, the team makes more than 350 arrests each year.
