History Since 1992

Since 1992, the number of women in the Winnipeg Police Service has grown significantly. As of August 29, 2005, there were 173 women police officers, representing approximately 14% of the sworn members.

Women police officers are an integral component of today's service, and they continue to be upwardly mobile in our promotion structure. As of August 29, 2005, the number of women in leadership roles includes:

  • Deputy Chief - 1
  • Superintendent - 1
  • Inspector - 1
  • Sergeant - 7
  • Patrol/Detective Sergeant - 11
  • Constables - 152

Since 1992, women on the Winnipeg Police Service have continued to establish firsts, including:

Superintendent Corrine Scott

In 2004, Corrine Scott was promoted to the rank of Superintendent. She is currently in charge of Support Services.

In 2009, Corrine Scott was invested into the Order of Manitoba, the province's highest honour that recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour, benefiting in an outstanding manner the social, cultural or economic well-being of Manitoba and its residents.

Over the next few years, especially with the projected retirements of current members, there is great opportunity for those interested in joining the Winnipeg Police Service. The career is “So much more than just a uniform.”
