Commercial Stolen Auto Unit

Law enforcement agencies in Manitoba that investigate commercial vehicle theft include:

  • Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Stolen Auto Unit – Contact the WPS Stolen Auto Unit if the vehicle has had the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate removed or tampered with and it is believed the vehicle is stolen. Contact the WPS Stolen Auto Unit if the VIN does not match the make or model of vehicle and is suspected as being stolen.
  • Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) Corporation Special Investigations Unit – If the vehicle is believed to be part of an MPI fraud.
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – If the investigation involves a vehicle stolen from a jurisdiction other than the City of Winnipeg.

The Commercial Stolen Auto Unit also handles chop shop investigations and shop inspections under the Highway Traffic Act.
