Crime Prevention Citizens for Crime Awareness (C.F.C.A.)

Citizens for Crime Awareness (CFCA) was started in 1982 by Winnipeg Police Crime Prevention Officers and several Neighbourhood Watch Block Captains, with the intention of hosting crime prevention seminars and displays and to assist the police in maintaining the Neighbourhood Watch Program. Offices were subsequently established to act as resource centres where Block Captains, members of Neighbourhood Watch and citizens at large could obtain crime prevention information.

Since that time CFCA has expanded and now has seven individual area chapters throughout the City of Winnipeg, as well as a parent body – CFCA Winnipeg. It is a non-profit, voluntary organization that greatly assists the Winnipeg Police Service in running and maintaining the Neighbourhood Watch Program. It also has several other crime prevention initiatives that it has undertaken to make Winnipeg a safer city for everyone.

MANDATE OF CITIZENS FOR CRIME AWARENESS

To be an information resource on crime awareness and crime prevention for the community.

To promote the participation of individual citizens and community organizations in crime awareness and crime prevention.

To deliver effective and efficient programs and services in crime awareness and crime prevention in a consistent manner across the City of Winnipeg, in partnership with the Winnipeg Police Service, and in association with other community organizations.

To network with other community organizations and interrelate with agencies of government having similar aims; ensuring its programs are appropriate and complement those delivered by others.
