Crime Prevention - The CAPTAIN PLUS

Computer Automated Phone Tracking and Information Network

The CAPTAIN PLUS is a computerized voice messaging system that notifies business and residential participants of important crime updates, such as break and enter events that have occurred in their specific neighbourhoods.

The CAPTAIN PLUS system can place up to 800 phone messages per hour. Calls are usually programmed between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., but they can be placed outside these hours in case of an emergency, such as a missing child or elderly person.  If there is no answer, additional calls are made automatically. The system can leave messages on an answering machine

RESIDENTIAL PARTICIPANTS

Any residence that has had at least one person attend a Neighbourhood Watch New Members Meeting is eligible to receive messages from the CAPTAIN PLUS system. For more information about joining Neighbourhood Watch, contact your local Citizens For Crime Awareness (CFCA) chapter or the Winnipeg Police Service Community Relations Unit at 204-986-6322.

CAPTAIN PLUS notifies participating residents of crimes in their specific neighbourhood or other important information, such as
  • Break & Enters or Suspicious Persons
  • Trends in Stolen Vehicles (three or more in an area)
  • Missing Persons (elderly or young children)
  • Important Neighbourhood Meetings

INFORMATION PROVIDED

Information provided in CAPTAIN PLUS calls includes non-specific location of occurrence information, point and method of entry, time and date of the incident and items stolen or nature of incident.
