Police Choir Master Mr. Barry Anderson
Mr. Barry Anderson was recruited from his job as the school musical director at Daniel McIntyre High School to conduct the Winnipeg Police Choir on a part time basis in 1973. He was well known in Winnipeg music circles for his valuable work for the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, the Daniel McIntyre Alumna Choir, as well as being the head organist at Knox United Church.
In 1988, former Chief of Police Herb Stephens awarded Mr. Anderson with the honorary rank of Superintendent in recognition for his valued services. This allowed Superintendent Anderson to outrank and issue orders to the Inspectors in the Choir.
From its inception to this day, Mr. Anderson remains the only Choir Master in charge of directing the Winnipeg Police Choir. In 2005, Chief of Police J. J. Ewatski presented Mr. Barry Anderson with a plaque in appreciation of his dedication and loyal service of over thirty years to the Winnipeg Police Service Choir and the citizens of the City of Winnipeg.
Mr. Anderson is retired but continues to lead an active life contributing to the musical scene throughout Winnipeg.
