Community Service Centres

A Community Connection

Community Service Centres are part of the Winnipeg Police Service Community Policing program. These centres help the Winnipeg Police Service maintain a constant and active presence in our communities.

Functions

Community Service Centres handle the following functions:

  • Act as walk-in reporting centres for non-emergency calls
  • Reduce and more effectively respond to calls
  • Provide citizens with an alternate means of communicating with the police
  • Provide better all-around service to the community

Staff

Community Service Centres are staffed by at least one police officer and volunteers who assist both the officers and the public. The officer’s duties include:

  • Accepting walk-in complaints and accident reports
  • Acting as a direct link between the community and the Winnipeg Police Service
  • Looking for proactive ways to address problems within the community

Accessibility

Community Service Centre locations have been chosen so that every area within the city limits can easily access either one of the existing offices or one of the new Community Service Centres.

The selection for the specific sites was based on the following criteria:

  • Distance from existing police facilities
  • Proximity to bridges or major traffic routes connecting districts
  • Ease of access (including handicapped)
  • Available parking
  • High visibility
  • Needs assessment
