The Winnipeg Police Service Bike Unit group pictureThe Winnipeg Police Service Bicycle Patrol Unit is a specialized unit and positions on this unit are highly sought after by police members of the Service. A competition is held annually to fill any vacancies, where members are chosen on the basis of initiative, communication skills, their cycling experience and fitness level. Members must have five or more years of service, and are temporarily assigned from other uniform divisions within the Service.

WPS Bike Unit - Two officers on bikes The unit operates during the summer months. During operation, the assigned officers patrol in various capacities in all areas of the city and ride an average of thirty to seventy kilometres per day. The public can expect to see Bicycle Patrol Unit members at calls for service, community events and performing traffic related duties.
