The Planning, Property and Development Department has the lead administrative responsibility for creating Aboriginal Economic Development Partnerships and Municipal Development Services Agreements under the City Council - approved Municipal Aboriginal Pathways (MAP) strategy.

Working closely with Economic Development Winnipeg Inc., our role in providing this service is to coordinate and support implementation of the strategies defined in MAP in order to promote Aboriginal economic development and tourism.

The Administrative Coordinator of Economic Development position was created as a result of these new responsibilities and plays an important role in supporting the Downtown First Policy, the Homegrown Economic Development Strategy, and in promoting Aboriginal economic development in accordance with MAP.

This responsibility includes developing the relationships necessary to promote and develop Aboriginal economic development partnerships within the City of Winnipeg, coordinating resources across civic departments and providing information to expedite emerging Aboriginal business development opportunities within the City.

Particular emphasis is placed on Aboriginal emerging business and investment opportunities, working with Aboriginal organizations, external organizations, agencies, all levels of government, and interested heritage groups and associations in order to promote Winnipeg’s Aboriginal culture and heritage tourism.
