HISTORY

The title of Miss Manito Ahbee Youth Ambassador honours the memory of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls. Four is a sacred number in the Indigenous culture and tradition, marking the completion of a full cycle. And so it is that every four years an Indigenous woman, who was taken much too soon, is honoured by the Manito Ahbee Festival.

Candidate Eligibility Criteria

  • Contestant must be of Indigenous/Native American descent (Canada/U.S.A.)
  • Contestant must be Pow Wow Dancer
  • Contestant must be between the ages of 13 – 17 years of age, Female, Single, without dependents (children)
  • Contestant must be currently enrolled in school and be a student in good standing
  • In an effort to promote a positive and successful event, contestants must abstain from drugs and alcohol

The Miss Manito Ahbee Youth Ambassador Event will take place Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the RBC Convention Centre, during our International Pow Wow, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Free Adult Literacy Program

The West End Library Learning Program is an upgrading program for adult learners who want to improve their reading, writing, speaking, and math skills.

It is hosted in the West End Library, 999 Sargent Avenue. The library is inside the Cindy Klassen Recreation Centre.

When: Monday – Thursday
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost Free!
Bus tickets, coffee and light snacks are also provided.
