Streets Project Engineer

Public Works Department

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Project Management Engineer, the Streets Project Engineer directs and manages street construction projects including engineering design, construction of major new transportation facilities and new Active Transportation facilities, and the renewal of regional and residential streets, including associated underground/overhead utilities and infrastructure.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with membership in or eligible for registration in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba.
  2. Several years directly related experience in project management of transportation projects.
  3. Experience with supervision and management of engineering consultants.
  4. Working knowledge of geometric design, pavement design, current construction/maintenance practices, technical standards, material science and testing procedures.
  5. Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and maintain schedules and control a large number of projects.
  6. Ability to prepare and present comprehensive engineering reports.
  7. Ability to prepare and make public presentations.
  8. Knowledge of standards, specifications, codes, legislation and environmental requirements applicable to municipal public works.
  9. Good working knowledge of contract law, legal systems, dispute resolution, claim procedures and good negotiation skills.
  10. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that promotes an organizational culture conductive to the development of a highly motivated workforce, where initiative, creativity and innovation are required, encouraged and nurtured.
  11. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction to staff in a dynamic, diverse, and unionized team environment.
  12. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, (e.g. elected officials, civic, staff, and the public and volunteer community organization) having multiple interests.
  13. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of financial management, controllership and full cost accounting.
  14. Well-developed analytical, presentation, and report writing skills.
  15. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and other personal computer software including Microsoft Office.
  16. A sound knowledge of information and budget systems (eg: PeopleSoft).
  17. Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License.
