Project Engineer – Water Treatment

Water and Waste Department

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Engineer has the ability to successfully undertake the challenges associated with providing support in technical/engineering matters, including offering professional engineering recommendations and analysis for the Water Treatment Branch.

 

 

DUTIES

  1. Initiates and maintains control of the engineering project/study in conformance with aims, goals, policies, and objectives of the organization.
  2. Makes the effective use of people and resources required for and involved in the project/study.
  3. Ensures that the project/study will satisfy the technical, financial and organizational needs for which it was undertaken.
  4. Administers all aspects of the project budget and ensures that the project is completed within the approved budget.
  5. Administers project schedules.
  6. Ensures proper collection and dissemination of project information.
  7. Identifies, analyzes and responds to project risks.
  8. Acquires goods and services from outside organizations as necessary to complete the project.
  9. Obtains required approvals/permits/licenses from other City and Provincial Departments, as required.
  10. Ensures proper collection and dissemination of project information.
  11. Ensures compliance with Worker’s Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations and safe work practices.
  12. Performs other related duties consistent with the position, as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  2. Master’s Degree in Environmental, Chemical / Civil Engineering is desirable.
  3. Professional Engineer designation and registered in A.P.E.G.M. is required.
  4. Significant number of years’ experience a field directly related to the duties of the position.
  5. Additional courses related to Water Treatment would be an asset.
  6. Water Treatment Operator Certification Level 4 (Province of Manitoba) would be an asset.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer using the Microsoft suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project) and AutoCAD.
  8. Must have an understanding of accounting principles and project cost control.
  9. Must possess a sound knowledge of the implementation of engineering related skills.
  10. Must have a sound knowledge of project management principles.
  11. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  12. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
  13. Strong organizational and project planning skills; able to effectively organize, prioritize and coordinate work and resources.
  14. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  15. Demonstrated ability to direct staff, and effectively plan and schedule work.
  16. Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
  17. Must have, or be able to acquire within in a reasonable period of time, a thorough knowledge of the Drinking Water Safety Act, Operator Certification regulations, Environmental Emergency regulations, and other applicable legislation, regulations and licenses.
  18. Must have, or be able to acquire within 12 months of the appointment, demonstrated knowledge of specific operating, maintenance and work processes used by the City of Winnipeg water treatment and transmission system.
  19. Must have, or be able to acquire within 12 months of the appointment, knowledge of City/Departmental policies and procedures.
  20. Must have a thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety regulations that are applicable to the position’s area of work.
