Bridge Projects Engineer

Public Works Department

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Manager of Engineering, the Bridge Projects Engineer is responsible for delivery of projects within the bridge capital program including all processes necessary to ensure the projects are managed in a cost effective, efficient and environmentally responsible manner that reflects the needs of the Public and City Council and meets the goals and objectives of the Department. The Bridge Projects Engineer also provides technical expertise for the rehabilitation or replacement of bridge infrastructure.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and membership in A.P.E.G.M.
  2. Several years experience in the design, construction, and rehabilitation of bridge infrastructure.
  3. Extensive knowledge of current bridge design standards, materials, construction practices, and rehabilitation methods.
  4. Knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation and City by-laws and regulations related to the function of the position. i.e. The City of Winnipeg Act, Environment Act, Rivers and Streams regulations, National Transportation Agency regulations, Navigable Waters Act.
  5. Extensive knowledge in project management and contract administration principles and techniques.
  6. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, elected and appointed officials, the public, City departments, and outside agencies, both orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to plan, organize, co-ordinate, and manage multiple tasks or projects under changing or stressful conditions or in response to emergency situations.
  8. Knowledge of contract law as it applies to the delivery of capital projects. Ability to identify, negotiate, and resolve conflicts in a timely manner with effective results.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, and personnel of other departments.
  10. Ability to work extended hours in emergency situations.
  11. Ability to work under stressful conditions to accommodate time limits and program changes.
  12. Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
