Thank you for visiting the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) website. You will find an abundance of safety and emergency information, departmental history and details of our operations.
The WFPS is comprised of two branches - the Winnipeg Fire Department (WFD) and Winnipeg Emergency Medical Services (WEMS), which are under the management and control of the Fire & Paramedic Chief.
The WFPS is responsible by law to provide fire suppression services, fire prevention programs, training and education related to prevention, detection or extinguishment of fires. WFPS, in partnership with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, is also responsible for pre-hospital emergency paramedical care and transport of the sick and injured in Winnipeg.
The WFD handles hazardous materials incidents, mitigates serious situations and is responsible for the evacuation of people when in charge at an incident. We provide specialized rescue services such as water / ice and trench rescues, professional extrication services for vehicle and industrial accidents and high angle rescues.
WEMS provides advanced life support services of the highest caliber. Fire and ambulance units are staffed with highly trained, licensed paramedics.
The WFPS also oversees the Emergency Preparedness Program which aims to provide and support effective planning, disaster management and education services to the citizens of Winnipeg.
WFPS enforces the Manitoba Fire Code within City limits, which includes making inspections, regulating and enforcing standards, issuing licenses and issuing penalties.
