MIRV (Major Incident Response Vehicle)
  • MIRV units are called upon where the potential or reality of a mass casualty situation exists, for the evacuation of large facilities such as nursing homes or apartment buildings, protracted incidents, bariatric transports, special events, CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosive) incidents, inter-facility transfer of multiple patients or when rehabilitation may be required for WFPS staff at incidents.
  • The new MIRV is a 2007 Eldorado Transit Coach Bus converted by Crestline Coach to a multi-patient and multi passenger vehicle. There is patient capacity for eight stretcher patients: five on standard patient transport stretchers and three on portable stretchers. It is one of only two such vehicles in Canada, the other belonging to the City of Toronto EMS. A second MIRV, smaller in capacity is still in use within the fleet.
